Swing-bed Basics

About
Hospitals located in rural areas operating 100 or fewer licensed hospital beds and critical access hospitals are eligible to participate in the swing-bed program. Hospital beds can be used for an acute-care patient or a post-acute (skilled nursing) patient in this program. This webinar describes the basic Medicare regulations to participate in the swing-bed program and explains the differences between the requirements for critical access and other rural hospitals.
Learning objectives
- Describe the federal regulatory requirements and related interpretative guidelines.
- Explain patient eligibility criteria for admission to the swing-bed program.
- Discuss the differences between the requirements for comprehensive assessment in a critical access hospital and rural hospital.
- Describe how to use Appendix PP for the swing-bed interpretative guidelines

This program is intended for all hospitals and health systems including general acute hospitals, CAH, and anyone involved with compliance regulations and standards, including but not limited to chief executive officers, chief medical officers, chief nursing officers, staff nurses, quality improvement staff, risk managers, compliance officers and legal counsel, regulatory readiness liaisons, safety officers, department directors, and other interested staff.
Fee
- $60 for MHA member hospital and health systems
