2022 Health Care Leadership Institute

March 3 and March 4

RE-EMERGENCE

Minnesota Hospital Association’s Health Care Leadership Institute convenes hundreds of CEOs, and other senior leaders from Minnesota’s hospitals and health systems.

Be part of this year’s event as those of us in health care prepare to re-emerge after two years of the COVID-19 pandemic. This year’s powerful collection of leaders includes Neil Rao, partner, McKinsey and Company, Ken Kaufman, founder and chair, Kaufman Hall, U.S. Sen. Tina Smith, and Cathy Wurzer, host of Minnesota Public Radio's (MPR) Morning Edition and Twin Cities Public Television's (TPT) Almanac.

  • Neil Rao: Fortified for Re-emergence: Strategies for Leadership Renewal - Neil Rao serves U.S. health systems to develop their long-term strategies and enable top-line performance, along with advising private equity and venture capital firms investing in health care delivery and services. He leads McKinsey’s Healthcare Systems & Services practice efforts focused on provider strategy, growth, and pricing in North America, along with the Firm’s knowledge efforts for providers, including work through their Center for U.S. Healthcare Reform.
  • Ken Kaufman: Reclaiming ambition: creating the post-pandemic health care system - Ken Kaufman is the founder, managing director, and chair of Kaufman Hall. We are happy to be welcoming Ken back to an MHA event. Since 1976 Kaufman has provided health care organizations with expert counsel and guidance in areas including strategy, finance, financial and capital planning, and mergers, acquisitions, and partnerships. Clients include community hospitals and health systems, academic medical centers, and regional or national health systems. Ken will share powerful insights regarding macroeconomic changes of the pandemic and what hospitals and health care systems need to do to thrive now and into the future.
  • U.S. Sen. Tina Smith: Congressional highlights and dialogue - Since coming to the Senate in 2018, Sen. Smith has been a fierce advocate for the people and communities across the state. Her work has helped make health care more affordable and accessible, and she has made the expansion of much-needed broadband services across the state a priority. As a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, Sen. Smith has a leading advocate for hospitals and health systems working to provide financial support, strengthen the health care workforce, and expand access to mental health services. Sen. Smith will share updates on work her team is leading.
  • Cathy Wurzer: Navigating challenges with the end in mind - Cathy Wurzer is the host of Minnesota Public Radio's (MPR) Morning Edition and Twin Cities Public Television's (TPT) Almanac. Wurzer is the founder of End in Mind Project, a non-profit focused on difficult conversations around loss, grief, serious illness, and end of life.

Other important sessions will include:

  • A heart-to-heart dialogue where health care CEOs will talk with future generations about what they are looking for in an employer.
  • A conversation with health care CEOs from across the state as they share lessons learned during COVID-19.
  • Minnesota Hospital Association’s political action committee auction – featuring one-of-a-kind items including a weekend stay in Lutsen, private dance lessons, and a personal social media audit.
